What Is a Cycloidal Gear Reducer?

We often say our products are used in robots. But what exactly is a cycloidal gear reducer?

It’s essentially a torque amplifier. A motor runs at high speed with low torque; after passing through the reducer, speed drops and torque multiplies by dozens of times.

Named after its core components—the cycloidal disc and ring pins—it features multiple teeth in simultaneous contact. The eccentric shaft drives the disc in both revolution and rotation; the former is absorbed, the latter is transmitted as output.

With multi-tooth rolling contact, it delivers low friction, high efficiency, and back-drivability. This allows smooth, compliant, and collision-resistant robotic joint control.

Ideal for heavy-load, high-precision, and high-rigidity applications. Widely used in industrial robots, machine tool turntables, AGVs, and emerging humanoid robots.
